Sometimes waking up a 4am while on vacation has its rewards.
This was a fairly epic sunrise at a spot that can only be reached by waking up well before dawn, driving down an extremely rutted dirt road and hiking over 1/4 mile or so of exposed lava shelf in the dark.
Given the amount of effort it took to even get to the spot, I only had one chance to get here during the vacation, and luckily, conditions were right!
